An impressive winter storm is on the way with impacts ranging from heavy snow over the interior to intense rainfall, wind gusts over 50 mph, and coastal flooding.  Another storm threat is brewing for next weekend as well.

TODAY

An area of low pressure will approach the region with increasing clouds through the afternoon followed by periods of snow and sleet in the late afternoon and evening.  The wintry mix will change over to rain along the coast in the evening. Winds will be from the east at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph at times.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid-30s to lower 40s along the coast for evening highs.

TONIGHT

The low-pressure system will lift through the region with a wintry mix of snow and sleet over the interior and periods of heavy rain along the coast.  Winds will be from the east at 10 to 20 mph over the interior and 15 to 30 mph along the coast with gusts between 40 to 70 mph at times.  Coastal flooding and power outages will be a threat.  Temperatures will hold in the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to mid-40s along the coast for lows.

TOMORROW

The low-pressure system will lift into New England in the morning with the wintry mix over the interior and rain along the coast tapering off.  Rain and snow showers will linger through the evening.  Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph at times.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to mid-40s along the coast for highs in the morning before falling through the 30s and 20s in the evening.

TUESDAY

A series of weak troughs will produce flurries throughout the region.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-20s over the interior and upper 20s to lower 30s along the coast for lows and mid-20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.

WEDNESDAY

High pressure will produce clear skies to scattered clouds.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 10s over the interior and lower to mid-20s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast for highs.

THURSDAY

A wave of low pressure over the coastal waters will produce isolated showers along the coast and flurries over the interior.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-20s over the interior and upper 20s to mid-30s along the coast for lows and upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.

FRIDAY

High pressure will produce clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures will range from the teens below zero to the single digits for lows and lower to mid-10s over the interior and upper 10s to lower 20s along the coast for highs.

SATURDAY

An area of low pressure will produce periods of snow, possibly heavy at times with significant snow accumulation.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to lower 10s over the interior and mid to upper 10s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 10s over the interior and upper 10s to the lower 20s along the coast for highs.

SUNDAY

Snow showers and flurries will linger over the region through the evening hours.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to lower 10s over the interior and lower to mid-10s along the coast for lows and upper 10s to lower 20s over the interior and lower to mid-20s along the coast for highs.
