A cool and breezy Easter Sunday will be followed by a major coastal storm tomorrow night with heavy rain, strong winds, and mountain snowfall.

 

TODAY

 

A strong cold front will move through the region early in the morning with scattered showers.  Scattered clouds with isolated showers will linger for the rest of the day.  Winds will veer to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph at times.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

 

TONIGHT

 

Scattered clouds can be expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast.  There is a high threat of freeze conditions for the coastal plain that may damage vegetation.

 

TOMORROW

 

High pressure will produce clear skies with scattered cloud cover through the morning.  Overcast cloud cover will develop in the afternoon with rain developing towards evening.  Winds will veer from the northwest to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 40s to lower 50s over the interior and lower to mid-50s along the coast for highs.

 

TOMORROW NIGHT

 

Waves of moderate to heavy rain are expected throughout much of the region.  For elevations above 1,000 feet, the rain will change over to snow with some significant snowfall accumulation over 6" possible for the highest elevations in the Poconos and Catskills.  Winds will back from the northeast to the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 40 mph along the coast.  Temperatures will fall into the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows.

 

TUESDAY

 

An area of low pressure will produce periods of rain, heavy at times, in the morning.  Skies will clear towards the afternoon and evening.  Winds will be from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph at times.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to mid-50s along the coast for highs.

 

WEDNESDAY

 

High pressure will build into the region with scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures will range from the upper 20s to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows and upper 40s to lower 50s over the interior and mid to upper 50s along the coast for highs.

 

THURSDAY

 

High pressure will exit the region with increasing cloud cover expected.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s over the interior for lows and mid to upper 50s on the immediate coast, upper 50s to lower 60s over the interior, and lower to mid-60s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

 

FRIDAY

 

High pressure will remain over the coastal waters with scattered cloud cover expected.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-40s over the interior and mid to upper 40s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 60s along the coast, upper 60s to lower 70s over the interior, and lower to mid-70s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

 

SATURDAY

 

A cold front will sink south from New England with increasing clouds and isolated showers to widely scattered showers.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-50s for lows and mid-60s to lower 70s in Connecticut, Long Island, the Hudson River Valley, and New York City metropolitan areas and mid-70s to lower 80s for much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania for highs.

 

SUNDAY

 

The cold front boundary will stall over the region with scattered to broken cloud cover and isolated showers.  Temperatures will range from the upper 40s to mid-50s for lows and upper 50s to mid-60s in Connecticut, Long Island, the Hudson River Valley, and New York City metropolitan areas and mid-70s to lower 80s for much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania for highs.
