Tranquil weather conditions have returned and will be in place through at least Thursday morning, however showers and thunderstorms are not far from returning.
High pressure will build into the region today with clearing skies. Winds will be from the west at 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-50s over the interior and mid to upper 50s along the coast for highs this afternoon.
High pressure will be in control tonight on through tomorrow with clear skies to scattered cloud cover. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph through the afternoon and then the wind will become light and variable. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for lows and mid-50s to lower 60s for highs.
High pressure will exit on Thursday with increasing clouds throughout the day. A warm front will follow in the evening with broken to overcast cloud cover and isolated showers. Winds will veer to the south at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-60s for highs.
A cold front will approach on Friday with scattered to broken cloud cover through the afternoon with an isolated shower or thunderstorm. Widespread showers and strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening. The thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph. Temperatures on Friday will range from the lower to mid-50s over the interior and mid-50s to lower
60s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-70s on Long Island, mid to upper 70s over the interior, and upper 70s to mid-80s for the rest of the region for highs.
The cold front will stall and waver over the region Saturday on through Monday with scattered to broken cloud cover and widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures to the north of the cold front will range from the mid-40s to lower 50s for lows and mid-60s to lower 70s for highs. Temperatures to the south of the cold front will range from the mid-50s to lower 60s for lows and mid-70s to lower 80s for
highs.
