An unsettled weather pattern will take hold this weekend and remain in place through next week with waves of rainfall and broken cloud cover. Windy and raw weather conditions are expected at times along with the potential for coastal flooding and urban flooding.
A cold front will slowly settle south towards the Delmarva Peninsula today with scattered to broken cloud cover and a few isolated showers. Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-70s for highs this afternoon.
A stationary front will linger just southwest of the region tonight through tomorrow with broken to overcast cloud cover, drizzle, and isolated showers. Winds will veer to the east at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will range from the upper 40s to lower 50s for lows and mid to upper 60s over the interior and lower to mid-60s along the coast for highs.
An area of low pressure will organize over the Ohio River Valley with a warm front approaching from the south while a subtropical low-pressure system lingers off the Mid Atlantic coast on Monday, which will produce broken to overcast cloud cover and isolated to widely scattered showers in the morning. More widespread rainfall is expected by the evening hours. Winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph by
evening. Temperatures will range from the upper 40s to mid-50s for lows and upper 50s to lower 60s on Long Island and mid to upper 60s elsewhere for highs.
While there is still uncertainty on the exact interaction between the developing low-pressure system over the Ohio River Valley, the subtropical low-pressure system, and the position of each system Monday night through Thursday, some overall themes in the weather pattern can be expected. Scattered to broken cloud cover will be in place with periods of rain, heavy at times. Overall, at least 0.50" of rainfall is expected through the period,
however, if the waves of rainfall are more frequently directed towards the region, rainfall amounts will easily exceed 2" of rain. Volatility is high and confidence is low for this forecast period. Temperatures will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for lows and upper 50s to mid-60s over the interior and mid-50s to lower 60s along the coast for highs.
By Friday, the low-pressure system will lift out of the region with periods of showers, heavy at times. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-50s over the interior and mid-50s to lower 60s along the coast for lows and mid-60s to lower 70s for highs.
