A blast of hot and humid conditions today will support the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms this evening for most of the region.  An active weather pattern will continue into the weekend.

 

A warm front will continue to move through the region this morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Scattered clouds are expected through the early afternoon as the warm front lifts north.  A cold front will follow late this afternoon and evening with showers and strong to severe thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will be capable of intense downpours, frequent lightning, hail, wind gusts over 60 mph, and possibly an isolated tornado.  These thunderstorms will produce poor visibility below a mile, wind damage, and hail damage.  Flash flooding is a threat.  Winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-70s to lower 80s on Long Island and mid-80s to lower 90s elsewhere for highs.

 

The cold front will clear the coast by tomorrow morning with a few lingering showers followed by clearing skies.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-60s for lows and upper 70's to mid-80s for highs.  

 

A wave of low pressure will develop along the stalled cold front tomorrow night through Friday with scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms expected.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures on Friday will range from the lower to mid-60s for lows and upper 70s to mid-80s for highs.

 

Another cold front will follow on Saturday with additional showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the mid to upper 60s for lows and upper 70s to mid-80s for highs.

 

The cold front will clear the coast on Sunday morning with a few isolated showers followed by clearing skies in the afternoon and evening.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the upper 50s to lower 60s for lows and lower to mid-70s for highs.  

 

High pressure will be in control on Monday and Tuesday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the mid to upper 50s for lows and upper 60s to mid-70s for highs.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the upper 40s to mid-50s for lows and mid-70s to lower 80s for highs.
