Tranquil conditions will be in place today, but a developing storm to the west will bring rain and snow to the region by tomorrow night on through Saturday.

 

High pressure will pass through the region today with clear skies to scattered clouds.  Winds will be from the west-southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 40s for highs this afternoon.

High pressure will exit tonight with increasing clouds into tomorrow morning.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast.

 

An area of low pressure will approach from the west tomorrow with increasing clouds and showers developing in the afternoon and evening.  Some of the rain may mix with snow late in the evening over the Poconos.  Winds will back to the south at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

 

An area of low pressure will track through the New Jersey coastal waters and lift into southeastern New England on Saturday with waves of moderate to heavy rainfall along the coast.  The rain will mix over and change to snow for interior locations like the Poconos, the Catskills, the Hudson River Valley, and the Hudson Highlands.  Snow accumulation for most locations will be limited to cold surfaces, but the accumulation over 4" will be possible for the highest elevations.  As the storm departs in the afternoon and evening, the rain will mix with snow at times even along the coast.  Winds will back from the southeast to northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph at times.  Temperatures will fall through the 50s, 40s, and 30s through the day as cold air invades on the backside of the storm.

 

The low-pressure system will exit Saturday night through Sunday with scattered clouds and isolated to widely scattered rain and snow showers.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and lower to mid-30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.

 

A series of weak cold fronts and troughs will pass through the region Monday through Thursday with scattered clouds and a few passing snow showers and flurries.  Temperatures on Monday through Wednesday will range from the lower to mid-20s over the interior and mid to upper 20s along the coast for lows and lower to mid-30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for lows and upper 30s to lower 40s over the interior and mid to upper 40s along the coast for highs.
