A major winter storm is expected to impact the entire forecast area of heavy snow, sleet, periods of rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding.  A special Premium Consulting Member Video Chat will be launched this evening from 7 PM to 8 PM to discuss the storm.

 

The winter storm will begin to impact the region after 2 PM tomorrow with the precipitation shield spreading northward through the afternoon and evening.  For southern New Jersey and Delaware in zones 1 and 2, the precipitation will start off as rain and remain as rainfall until Thursday morning, see map for timing details.  Further north in zones 3 and 4, a mixture of snow, sleet, and rain is expected with a high threat for significant sleet accumulation, especially in zone 4.  In the zone labeled 5, bands of intense snowfall will be possible with snowfall rates of 1" to 3" per hour.  In these areas, snowfall will likely exceed a foot and may reach up to 20"  in some isolated locations, likely for higher elevations.

 

The storm will exit on Thursday with all locations changing over to snow from northwest to southeast.  The snow will exit the region from 10 AM to 3 PM on Thursday from west to east.

 

Other impacts from this storm include strong winds at 15 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph at times, especially on the coast.  Visibility will fall below a mile at times, especially between 10 PM Wednesday through 10 AM Thursday.  Minor to moderate coastal flooding will be a threat as well, especially on the New Jersey coast.
