Aside from a few lake effect snow showers in the Poconos, tranquil conditions will be in place through the mid-week.  However, a stormy weather pattern returns just in time for the start of 2021.

 

A few snow showers will linger this morning over the Poconos and Catskills this morning.  Otherwise scattered clouds are expected today through tomorrow with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Winds will back from the northwest to southwest at 5 to 15 mph through the forecast period.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.  Temperatures tomorrow will range from the upper 10s to mid-20s for lows and mid-30s to lower 40s for highs.

 

A cold front will follow on Thursday, New Year's Eve, with scattered showers in the afternoon.  Skies will clear for the evening.  Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coast for lows and mid to lower 40s over the interior and mid to upper 40s along the coast for highs.

 

An area of low pressure will approach on Friday, New Year's Day, with periods of rain along the coast by the afternoon and evening.  A winter mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain can be expected for interior locations, especially in the Poconos and Catskills.  Some ice accumulation will be a threat.  Temperatures will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and lower to mid-40s over the interior and upper 40s to lower 50s along the coast for highs.

 

A cold front will follow on Saturday with showers in the morning followed by clearing skies.  Early morning highs will range from the mid-40s to lower 50s over the interior and mid-50s to lower 60s along the coast before falling through the 40s and 30s in the afternoon and evening.

 

Another area of low pressure will develop off the coast on Sunday with rain and snow developing in the afternoon.  Some accumulation snowfall will be possible Sunday night into Monday morning followed by clearing skies on Monday.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the upper 20s to mid-30s for lows and mid to upper 30s for highs.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and mid-30s to lower 40s for highs. 

 

High pressure will be in control on Tuesday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the upper 10s to the lower 20s over the interior and mid-20s to lower 30s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 30s for highs.
