The new year, 2021, starts with a new storm invading this afternoon with periods of snow, ice, and rain for parts of the region.

 

An area of low pressure will lift towards the Great Lakes today with increasing clouds giving way to rain by this afternoon and evening for most of the region.  However, for interior locations, a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop initially before changing over to rain by midnight.  Winds will back from the east to northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-30s over the interior and upper 30s to mid-40s along the coast for highs this evening.  Please see the map below for impact details.

A cold front will follow tomorrow with showers early in the morning followed by clearing skies towards the afternoon.  Winds will back to the west at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall from the 40s and 50s into the 30s and 20s by evening.

 

Another area of low pressure will approach the region on Sunday with developing rain and snow throughout the region in the afternoon and evening.  Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid-20s to lower 30s for lows and mid-30s to lower 40s for highs.

 

The area of low pressure will move through the coastal waters Sunday evening through Monday morning with a mix of rain and snow over the interior and light to moderate snow over the interior.  Snow accumulation up to 4" will be possible for elevations above 700 feet while a trace to an inch of snow will be possible along the coast before the precipitation ends on Monday morning.  Skies will clear towards Monday afternoon.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-30s for lows and mid to upper 30s over the interior and lower to mid-40s along the coast for highs.

 

High pressure will be in control Tuesday through Thursday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures through the period will range from the mid to upper 20s over the interior and upper 20s to lower 30s along the coast for lows and mid to upper 30s over the interior ad lower to mid-40s along the coast for highs.

 

An area of low pressure will approach on Friday with snow developing in the evening.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-20s for lows and lower to mid-30s for highs.
