Snow will continue to slide south and east this morning, lingering over southern New Jersey into the afternoon.  Another icy threat is developing for Saturday night with significant ice accretion possible, especially on the I-95 corridor.

 

LINGERING SNOWFALL

 

As an area of low pressure passes to the south of the region this morning, steady snowfall will slowly exit to the southeast over southern New Jersey.  Scattered clouds and flurries can be expected for the rest of the region.  Winds will be from the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-20 to the lower 30s for highs.

 

A BRIEF BREAK

 

High pressure will build into the region tomorrow through Saturday afternoon with clear skies to scattered clouds and a few lingering snow showers possible over southern New Jersey.  Winds will be from the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to the mid-10s for lows and upper 10s to mid-20s for highs tomorrow.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the single digits below zero to mid-10s for lows and mid-20s to lower 30s for highs.

 

SIGNIFICANT ICE THREAT BECOMING LIKELY

 

An area of low pressure will approach the region Saturday evening through Sunday with a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain throughout the region.  Periods of light to moderate snowfall can be expected for the northern interior from the Poconos, Catskills, central Hudson River Valley, and northern Connecticut.  Meanwhile, a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain can be expected on the I-95 corridor from the Philadelphia metropolitan area through central New Jersey into the New York City metropolitan area with ice accretion over 0.10" possible.  Meanwhile, a mix of snow and rain can be expected along the immediate New Jersey coast and southeastern New Jersey.  Temperatures Saturday night through Sunday will range from the upper 10s to the lower 20s over the interior, mid-20s to lower 30s along the I-95 corridor, and mid-30s along the New Jersey coast for lows and upper 20s to mid-30s for highs.

 

ANOTHER BRIEF BREAK 

 

High pressure will build into the region Sunday night through Monday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the mid to upper 10s over the interior and lower to mid-20s along the coast for lows and mid-20s to lower 30s for highs.

 

ANOTHER WINTER STORM INVADES

 

An area of low pressure will invade on Tuesday through Wednesday morning with a wintry mix of heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain.  Details on the storm are uncertain as the exact track will have a major influence on precipitation type and amount.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the lower to mid-10s over the interior and upper 10s to lower 20s for lows and mid-20s to lower 30s over the interior and mid to upper 30s along the coast for highs.  Temperatures will fall through the 30s and 20s on Wednesday as the storm slowly departs.

 

ARCTIC AIR RETURNS

 

High pressure will invade on Thursday with clearing skies and a few lingering flurries.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to mid-10s for lows and upper 20s to mid-30s for highs.
