After wet and cool conditions the past few days, improving conditions return for Memorial Day.  Seasonable Summer weather returns this week with a threat for thunderstorms.

 

High pressure will build into the region today with clearing skies from west to east through this afternoon.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid-60s to lower 70s for highs which is still below normal but much warmer than the past two days.

 

High pressure will remain in control tonight through Tuesday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Winds will back from the northwest to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-50s for lows and lower to mid-70s over the interior, upper 60s to mid-70s along the coast, and mid to upper 70s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

 

High pressure will exit on Wednesday with a threat for locally dense fog in the morning hours and scattered clouds with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.  The thunderstorms will be capable of brief heavy downpours, occasional lightning, and wind gusts over 40 mph.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50s for lows and upper 60s to mid-70s along the coast, lower to mid-70s over the interior, and mid-70s to lower 80s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

 

A cold front will slowly approach the region on Thursday and Friday with areas of fog in the morning and scattered to broken clouds in the afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the upper 50s to mid-60s for lows and upper 60s to mid-70s on the coast, lower to mid-70s over the interior, and mid-70s to lower 80s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.  Temperatures on Friday will range from the lower to mid-60s over the interior and mid-60s to lower 70s along the coast for lows and upper 60s to mid-70s along the coast, lower to mid-70s over the interior, and mid-70s to lower 80s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.

 

The cold front will stall over the region on Saturday through Monday with areas of fog in the morning with scattered clouds in the afternoon with isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the lower to mid-60s for lows and lower to mid-70s on Long Island and mid-70s to lower 80s elsewhere for highs.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower to mid-60s for lows and upper 70s to lower 80s along the coast, lower to mid-80s over the interior, and mid to upper 80s in the Delaware River Valley for highs.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the mid-60s for lows and mid-70s to lower 80s along the coast and mid to upper 80s elsewhere for highs.
