Heat and humidity will hang around through the first half of the week before a series of cold fronts move through the region. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Sunday and Thursday ahead of these cold fronts. Much cooler conditions make a return as we head into the weekend.
Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds with scattered afternoon thunderstorms is expected. Some storms could contain gusty winds (<45mph). Temperatures will rise into the mid-70s to low 80s for northern locations while low 80s to upper 80s for southern locations. Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will drop to the mid-60s to low 70s while the mountains will be in the low 60s to upper 60s.
Monday: A dry but hot day is in store as a cold front is sliding southeast through the region. Daytime highs will range from the low 80s to upper 80s for northern regions and mid-80s to low 90s for southern regions. Coastal locations could get relief from the heat as a sea breeze is possible. Winds will be from the northwest at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will dip into the 60s for most locations while urban areas stay in the low 70s.
Tuesday: Intervals of clouds and sun will give way to some evening thunderstorms, especially for northern regions. These storms will decay and weaken as they approach the coastal plain. Temperatures will range from the low 80s to the upper 80s with some low 90s possible in the I-95 corridor. Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will range from the low 60s to near 70.
Wednesday: A nice day is on tap with partly cloudy skies and lower humidity. Temperatures will rise into the mid-80s to low 90s for southern locations while northern locations will be in the mid-70s to low 80s. Coastal regions will be in the mid-70s to low 80s with a sea breeze being possible. Winds will be from the northeast at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will drop into the 60s for most locations with some upper 50s being possible for the mountains.
Thursday: A cold front will approach the area bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. Temperatures will range from the mid-70s to low 80s for most locations while northern areas are in the low 70s to upper 70s. Winds will be from the west at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will range from the low 60s to upper 60s region-wide. Locations in the mountains could even see some lows in the upper 50s.
Friday: A pleasant day is expected with mostly sunny skies and low humidity. Temperatures will range from the low 70s to near 80. Locations in the mountains will range from the upper 60s to the mid-70s. Winds will be from the northwest at 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will drop into the mid-50s to low 60s for the area.
Weekend: A calm and comfortable weekend is in store as a high-pressure system moves into the region. A stray shower can not be ruled out on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the low to upper 70s on Saturday. Slightly warmer temperatures can be expected on Sunday.
