As hot and humid air surges northward today, the threat for thunderstorms returns. An active weather pattern will remain in place through this weekend and beyond.
A stationary front will lift north as a warm front today with areas of low clouds and fog giving way to scattered clouds. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening with thunderstorms capable of intense downpours, frequent lighting, hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph. Winds will veer to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will rise into the mid-80s to lower 90s along the coast and lower to mid-90s elsewhere with a heat index around 100 degrees.
A weak trough will linger over the region tonight on through tomorrow with areas of fog in the morning and an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid-70s for lows and mid-80s to lower 90s for highs.
A cold front will follow tomorrow night on through Friday morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The cold front will weaken into a trough along the coast by the afternoon with scattered clouds and isolated thunderstorms. Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures on Friday will range from the lower to mid-70s for lows and lower to mid-80s along the coast and mid to upper 80s elsewhere for highs.
A weak trough will linger over the region Saturday on through Tuesday with areas of fog in the morning and isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Otherwise, dry and humid conditions can be expected. Temperatures through the region will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s for lows and mid-80s to lower 90s along the coast and upper 80s to mid-90s elsewhere for highs.
